2009 Tour of Borrego Hill Climb Results

2009 Gave us interesting conditions. It was nice and calm at the bottom but a few miles up the grade, the wind and cold reared their ugly heads. One rider said the wind almost stopped him in his tracks! In spite of the brutal conditions near the top we had a record number of riders start (28) and all but one of them finished.

Drew Peterson, last years winner and Tom Schwartz battled it out the whole way up but unlike last year Tom nipped Drew at the very end for his first Tour of Borrego win.

Herb Johnson started out a little slow but kept picking off riders one by one. At the very end Daniel Yeager out dueled Herb for the 3rd place finish.

Mike Burrows the designer for this years event T-shirt showed his other talents and finished 1st in his division

The youth were well represented this year. Luke Landmark and Jeffrey Wilson battled it out the whole way up but Luke nipped Jeffrey by a mere 2 seconds to win the Junior Division

Winner of the women's division was Michelle Comeau at age 55. Adrienne Brian who had a winning streak of 3 straight wins was unable to ride due to a serious accident, but she was there cheering on her husband Herb Johnson. We hope to see Adrienne back on the bike competing again soon.

The Junior division female winner was Jennifer Green who turned in a great time.

Four 60 Plus year olds finished the ride. It just goes to show you that you can keep biking just about forever! Hans, a 70 year old, made it half way up the mountain but had to quit since the headwinds and his gearing made it too tough to continue. We hope to see Hans back again next year.

It is never too early to start training. See you next year!
