2005 Tour of Borrego Hillclimb Results
| Well the usual characters all returned with some exciting
racing, a new record and a new winner this year. Conditions were perfect this year with little or no wind and ideal temperatures for the hillclimb. Kevin McNulty who placed second last year started out strong and kept up an incredible pace that no one could match. The real race was for second place between 2003 winner Eric Schowengerdt and 2004 winner Herb Johnson. Eric paced Herb most of the way up and then finally Herb took the lead and towards the end pulled away. At 61 years of age Herb showed that you can indeed cheat mother time and even improve upon past year's performances! We had three women and one junior participate and we hope to see more in the future. Winner of the women's division was Jean Bernhard a first year participant. Winner of the junior division was Jeff Wilson. In all we had 22 participants this year, the most ever and with many personal best times. It is never too early to start training. Will the elusive 50 minute barrier be broken next year? Stay tuned! |
